BIO + KINETICS = LIFE + MOVEMENT = LIFE THROUGH MOVEMENT
The primary function of Biokinetics is to improve a person’s physical functioning and health care through exercise. As clinical exercise specialists, we aim to improve a person’s well-being and quality of life through individualised scientific assessment and the prescription of exercise in rehabilitative treatment to prevent or intervene with certain conditions and enhance performance both in sport and work.
We evaluate and measure different components: body posture, body composition, blood pressure, glucose levels, lung function, heart rate, fitness, muscle strength, endurance, power, flexibility and other health screenings. We focus on final phase rehabilitation, promoting health and maintaining physical abilities, using a scientifically-based physical activity programme prescription.
At Danie Linde Wellness Institute, we offer Aqua Therapy (water) and Land Therapy (gym). The Biokineticist who does the initial assessment will use the assessment results to determine which modality they will use for the patient or, if necessary, both. Aqua Therapy, Aquatic Therapy, or Water Therapy are all the same treatment modalities used in water. We use water as a critical component for treating various conditions too painful or unsafe to work on the land.
Musculoskeletal conditions such as back problems are handled much better in the water due to buoyancy. We take gravity’s stress off of the vertebra for increased flexibility, strength, endurance, and improved range of motion. We also treat conditions where you can not be weight-bearing due to ankle, foot or leg injuries in the water due to the reduced weight-bearing properties of the water.
Once a person is more confident and pain-free, the Biokineticist will consider moving the person to the more complex and challenging land-based exercises, improving daily living activities. In Biokinetics, moving from water to land-based therapy will allow maximum progression and improvement in the rehabilitation phase.
The benefits of land-based therapy are an increased loading of the limbs and joints, strengthening and conditioning the muscles even more. Working against gravity and working with your total body weight will advance the therapy you receive in the water. Thus, your muscles need to do more work to stabilise and maintain your balance.
We use weights, thera-bands, neuro-track stimulation, swiss balls, treadmills, bikes and resistance training machines as a modality through Biokinetics. On the land, it will be easier to activate and strengthen the correct muscles, thus preventing the compensation of other muscles.
After completing the prescribed Biokinetics therapy, you can expect to see improvement in your functional movement, range of motion, balance, strength and flexibility.
